Twin your Bookshelf or Library
In First World countries, books are easy to come by - either in shops, online or at the library. But in countries like Uganda, only a few people who can afford to buy them have access to books. We want to change that by making books available to communities at no cost to them.
We work with local organisations to create Community Reading Hubs and with rural schools to refurbish and restore existing libraries. Our aim is to transform tired spaces into welcoming environments full of books, where local people can have free access to reading material.
How you can help
By ‘twinning’ your bookshelf or library, you are gifting the communities we support in Uganda the opportunity to read.
It is £40 to twin a bookshelf through our website. For schools who wish to twin their libraries, we suggest a donation of £120 (small school) / £350 (large school).
What you get
When you twin, you will receive:
Information about the project you are twinned with
‘Before’ photos to show how it looked when the project began
A certificate to display
Photographs of the library or Reading Hub upon completion of the work
Our current projects:
Community Reading Hub: Sinyaland Center Library, Kalangala
The vision of this project is to create a place that serves people on all the Ssese Islands by providing free reading material and desktop computer access as well as the space to host reading clubs, digital literacy lessons and more. To see the latest from this project, watch the video at the top of the page or see the photos below.
Rural School Library: Full Primary School, Kasaala
Although the physical transformation of this library is complete, we will continue to work with the school for a total of five years ensuring the upkeep of the building and by providing more reading material. Watch the transformation in the video or by scrolling through the photos below.
