Schools Offer
Library Twinning
We support schools in rural Uganda to improve their reading culture by refurbishing their libraries. This often involves plastering, painting, building new bookshelves as well as buying new curriculum and story books. The aim is to transform tired spaces into welcoming environments full of books where pupils can enjoy reading a wide variety of books.
By twinning your library you are gifting children in Uganda with the opportunity to read.
For schools who wish to twin their libraries, we suggest a donation of £120 (small school) / £350 (large school). The most popular way to raise the money is through a non-uniform day.
When you twin, we will send you information about the current school we are working with. Upon completion of the refurbishment, we will send you a certificate including a photograph of your twin library.
Assemblies
We offer free assemblies to schools within a 15 mile radius of Chipping Norton who choose to take part in Library Twinning. In these assemblies, your pupils will be challenged to think about the things they may take for granted e.g. education & books. We will introduce you to the school that you will be twinned with and see images of their current library and any refurbishments that have already taken place. There will be the opportunity for questions from pupils and staff if you wish.
For schools outside of this area, there will be a powerpoint for teachers to download coming soon. This powerpoint is free, however, it does feature our book Tendo’s Gift. Do contact us for a voucher code to enable you to buy this at a discount rate.
Author & Illustrator Visits
Sarah Hutchinson-Jarman
Frog Finds Home
Sarah is offering interactive workshops for EYFS and KS1. The workshops are fun, creative sessions, with frog hopping, noise making and sensory play. For children in KS2 and above, children can enjoy learning the illustration techniques Sarah used throughout the book and hear what it's like to have a career as a writer and illustrator.
These sessions are free of charge (within 15 miles of Chipping Norton) but we do ask you to send handouts home with the children before the event (these will be provided). This gives the children a chance to pre-order a signed copy (to be delivered on the day of the workshop).
Lela Burbridge
Faith Muntu and the Lost Elephant
Tendo’s Gift
Lela is available for Q&A sessions for KS2, KS3 & KS4. She is able to talk about her childhood in Uganda, writing books, the publishing industry and running a business.
Although there is no direct charge for these sessions (within 15 miles of Chipping Norton), we ask that schools organise to Twin their library with one of our projects in Uganda.
There is also the opportunity for students to purchase one of Lela’s books at a discount rate.
